Make the winter brighter with an Earth Pigment Painting workshop with Twisp’s own Biological Alchemist – Sara Ashford.
In this workshop you will create decorative cut fabric pieces that can be used in many ways. Quilting, table toppers, pillow tops, inserts on clothing, AND wall art!
Techniques will include painting with Japanese Surikomi brushes and pigment sticks, block printing, Japanese Sashiko stitching and archival pen.
No experience is necessary and all supplies are included in the cost of the workshop.

With shop hours every day starting December 7 and continuing until the day before Christmas, Valley Goods will feature wares from more than thirty local vendors. Also not to be missed will be exclusive ‘Meet the Maker’ events and art-making sessions for kids of all ages.

Valley Goods will be located in TwispWorks building 9, right next to Door No. 3 Print Studio and will be open 10am – 6pm Monday – Friday and 10am – 3pm during the weekend. Have a cup of Blue Star coffee and a treat while you shop!
Learn basic Shibori techniques (clamping, folding, tying) which will create gorgeous patterns when dipped into the natural plant indigo vat. Produce a wide range of blues from pale sky to midnight. Cotton and Silk fabric will be provided but please also bring 2‐5 natural fiber items from home.
Nothing large, heavy or fuzzy items please. Thin cottons and silks are great. T-Shirts work great also. This class takes place both inside and out so dress appropriately and bring a hat and sunscreen!

Learn to mordant and dye a range of colors from locally sourced plant materials and a few historic and traditional dyes such as indigo, madder and cochineal. We will grind, chop and cook to extract a beautiful range of natural colors.
All fabric will be provided and you may also bring two items to dye in the for the indigo vat on day two. No fuzzy thick items please.
This 2-day workshop will be held in Culler Studio (Building #10) on the TwispWorks campus.
Cost includes a $30 materials fee.
