MEET THE TEAM

TwispWorks Staff Members

Here’s the team that makes everything happen! We’re a group of folks who are passionate about the Methow Valley and dedicated to helping local businesses and community projects thrive. Each one of us brings something unique to the table, and together, we’re making sure that the TwispWorks campus is always growing and buzzing with activity.

  • Jon Brown

    Executive Director

Jon Brown brings a strong and enduring business sense, fresh with ideas to take TwispWorks forward as a campus for education, economic innovation, art, communications, and community gatherings. Before taking the top job at Loup Loup in 2023, Brown was chef and co-owner of Arrowleaf Bistro in Winthrop. He graduated from Liberty Bell High School in 2001.

  • Tori Karpenko

    Director of Campus Operations

Tori Karpenko is an artist, farmer, carpenter, and non-profit leader. Tori first came to the Methow Valley in 2001 as the farm manager for Sunny Pine Farm. Tori lives south of Twisp with his son, Tesh.

  • Joe Bastian

    Business Manager

Joe worked in the semi-conductor industry as a manufacturing engineer for 14 years before moving to the Methow in 2011. He lives on the South Fork of Gold Creek, where he spends most of his free time either gardening or hiking, biking, climbing, and skiing the Sawtooth Range.

  • Patrick Law

    Economic Programs Director

Born and raised in New Hampshire, Patrick attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland before moving to Seattle, where he helped manage a busy farmers market and food banks. After spending more and more time in the Methow Valley with friends, he became a permanent resident in 2017. He worked for several small businesses before taking over the Fork food truck in 2019. Patrick enjoys biking, hiking, reading, swimming, and hanging out with his dog.

  • Evan Wagstaff

    Construction Lead

Born and raised in the Methow Valley, Evan has long been in the community through his family’s businesses, Texas Creek Products and A&J Electric. He began his carpentry career in 2017 building custom homes before moving to Olympia, Washington to further his skills. While there, he met his partner, Kaley, and they moved back to the Valley in 2023. In his free time, Evan enjoys hiking, camping, and biking.

  • Danica Ready

    Support Staff

Danica Ready has held leadership roles in a variety of Methow Valley nonprofits since 2001. Her background includes nonprofit administration, conservation biology, environmental education and community trail development. She spent eight years focusing on affordable housing prior to joining TwispWorks. Previous to that, Ready served as Program Manager for Methow Trails for 12 years, and as Membership Coordinator for the Methow Conservancy for two years in the early 2000s. Since moving to the Methow, Danica has added two kids (Payten and Ben) to the world, and she loves to hike, bike and ski with them.

  • Tiffany Ban

    Support Staff

Tiffany left behind the world of water resources engineering to work in the nonprofit world, starting first with The Mountaineers in Seattle. Since then, she has worked for several different nonprofits around the Methow Valley and Seattle. She recently started Lupine Nonprofit Services, managing donor databases and doing communications work for small mission-driven organizations. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, trail running, traveling and studying Spanish.

TwispWorks Board

The TwispWorks Board is made up of dedicated individuals who bring a wealth of experience and passion for the Methow Valley. Together, they guide the organization’s mission, ensuring its continued growth and impact in the community.

  • Tom Robinson

    President

Tom Robinson has been moving to the Methow since at least 2007. Maybe it was getting a 509 number or buying a pickup, but Tom is now anchored in the Valley with his wife Joan Wellman.

Raised in Seattle, Tom headed to college in Arizona, and guided outdoor courses in the Southwest before getting a PhD at Stanford. Then began a 30-year career as a management consultant. Tom also worked as a college professor before shifting to his final career as a Rolfer.

Tom loves to hike, ski, climb, raft, and ride bikes. He’s learning to farm a bit, too, moving handlines to irrigate regenerative pastures for hay and sheep. Tom wants to bring his love of building community and solving organizational problems to the TwispWorks board.

  • Chris Rogers

    Vice President

Chris has long been a fan of TwispWorks as a place to meet and connect with friends. Joining the board has given him an opportunity to learn the depth and breadth of the organization’s work in community building, education, and economic development through the support of makers and small businesses.

Chris looks forward to contributing his experience in real estate, project management, arts and culture, and sustainability as TwispWorks grows its influence throughout the Methow Valley.

He makes his home way up the Twisp River, where he takes advantage of hiking, birding, skiing, and spending time with friends and neighbors. Chris is a local real estate broker, and has served on a number of non-profit boards, including BirdNote, the Community Land Trust of Waldron Island, and the J. Homer Butler Foundation, a NY-based foundation that funds public health initiatives in the developing world.

  • Peter Speer

    Secretary

Peter grew up in Bellevue, Washington and has been coming to the Methow since 1982. He became a part time resident in 2005 and moved here full time after his wife of 39 years retired in 2016. Peter continues to work in the field of Traffic Safety, where he created and managed a global business starting in 1984.

Peter and his family initially came to the Valley for skiing. Then one year they discovered the wonders of Methow Valley in the other three seasons! He now serves on the board of the Methow Valley Fly Fishers and has contributed to improvements in his local HOA.
Peter said he is looking forward to serving on the TwispWorks board. He added, “I have served on a number of Boards of Directors from a local Little League to a national trade association. I’m honored to serve on this board and hope to bring my experience to bear on the mission of supporting the economic and cultural vitality of the Methow.”

  • Ross Beatty

    Treasurer

Ross grew up in Portland, but his family has owned property in the Methow since 1961, so he has been coming to the valley many times a year his entire life. In 2020 he and his wife made the move to live here full time and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle they both love. You will likely run into Ross on a mountain trail or waist deep fly fishing the river in the summer, or on one of valley’s Nordic trails or up at the Loup in the winter.

Ross owns a travel company that specializes in incentive travel programs and has an extensive background in event planning. He has served on the boards of the Portland branch of EO (Entrepreneurs Organization), and The Flyfishers Club of Oregon in the past, and currently serves on the boards of the Methow Valley Fly Fishers and his travel consortium WESTA. He also helps coach the Liberty Bell boys’ varsity soccer team.

Ross sees TwispWorks as a dynamic and challenging opportunity to be involved in something with tremendous potential. He hopes to help TwispWorks continue to add vitality to the community and support the growth of artists and small businesses.

  • Maud Daudon

Maud Daudon first came to the Methow Valley in 1977 to complete her college thesis on the proposed Aspen Ski Resort at Early Winters. During her nine months in the valley, she fell in love with its landscapes and people, and her parents soon purchased land up Twisp River Road. After college, Maud spent several years in Oregon and Washington, attended graduate school on the east coast, and eventually settled in Seattle. Throughout, she remained a regular visitor to the Methow. In 1995, she and her husband, Marc, built a home on their Twisp River property, which they visited frequently with their children, Sophie and Jamie, and where they now spend most of their time.

In 2024, Maud transitioned from her role as Executive Leader of Career Connect Washington, an initiative that passed major legislation in 2019 to build a statewide career-connected learning system. Before that, she served as President and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, President and CEO of Seattle Northwest Securities, Deputy Mayor of Seattle, and CFO at the Port of Seattle.

Maud holds a BA from Hampshire College and an MBA from the Yale School of Organization and Management. She also serves on the boards of the Nature Conservancy of Washington and the United Way of King County.

  • Ella Dillon

While Ella is from Philadelphia originally, she fell in love with mountain life after being a proud ski bum in Park City UT in her 20s. She’s been coming to the Methow Valley for 20 years since moving to Seattle in 1999 and is masterminding plans to move to her Twisp cabin full time once her daughter launches. When she’s not hiking, skiing or attempting to write the great american novel, she’s trying to train her puppy to keep 4 feet on the ground. She’s not winning.

After graduating from Princeton (and earning a living as a ski bum), Ella went on to run post sales organizations at Technology Companies like DocuSign. She currently consults and advises start-up founders on how to design their organizations, position their product or otherwise prepare for growth. Ella’s also Secretary of the Governing Board of the Pacific Science Center.

Like at the Science Center, she sees TwispWorks as both a place and opportunity for innovation, creation and connection. She looks forward to contributing her skills to foster the economic and cultural roots of the community with all of you.

  • Peter Goldman

Peter Goldman and his wife, Martha Kongsgaard, have owned the Gunn Ranch outside of Winthrop since 1985.  They now live there full-time.

Peter, an environmental and land use attorney, has been active in multiple Methow Valley non-profit organizations for decades.  He worked with the community to purchase the Twisp Works campus from the U.S. Forest Service and is very committed to the Twisp Works mission.

Peter recently built the “RiversMeet” building in downtown Winthrop, one of Winthrop’s newest buildings that offers mixed commercial spaces in a state-of-the-art “green” building.  Peter founded the Washington Forest Law Center in 1997, a non-profit law firm specializing in forestry law and continues to have a diverse law practice.

Peter is an avid skier, climber, biker, and backpacker and has climbed two 8000 meter peaks in the Himalayas.

  • Suzie Haberland

Raised in Geneva, Switzerland and Portland, Oregon, Suzie and her husband fell in love with the valley after moving back to Seattle from Minnesota, becoming part time residents in 2000 and becoming permanent residents in 2021. As an avid skier, skier, and wilderness aficionado, Suzie wakes up each morning grateful to be part of this incredible community.

Over the course of her career, Suzie has applied her expertise and counsel to interesting challenges, including to co-lead Starbucks’ largest business transformation and technology program to date, to facilitate the development of a multiple-agency approach for the United States’ early negotiations of the International Protocol on Climate change, to prepare several foreign policy analyses on terrorism and the transition of political power, and to collaborate cross-functionally to deliver business and technology solutions to existing, emerging and acquired business channels.

As a board member, Suzie hopes to help Twisp Works meet its full potential using best practices across strategy and execution.

  • Perri Howard

Perri Lynch Howard returns to the Board of Directors with a strong background in creative leadership and civic arts engagement. A TwispWorks partner for ten years, she previously served on the board for seven years, including roles as President and Vice President, and is glad to join forces with the team once again. She also serves on the University of Washington School of Art Advisory Board and is a past president of the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture Public Art Advisory Committee.

As an independent artist working in painting, drawing, sculpture, and sound,  she is represented by the Seattle Art Museum Gallery and Art X Contemporary in Seattle, WA. Her work has a global reach through exhibitions across the U.S., Europe, and South India, where she was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar.

  • Kelleigh McMillan

During her three decades of calling the Methow Valley home, Kelleigh has immersed herself in a world of connections, to people and to the natural world.

Throughout this time, she has worked alongside many teens, adults and kids growing food for the community at Red Shed farm up the Twisp River valley, while raising a family. Through her work with Methow Futures, a program of the MV School District, she supports local youth and adult learners to find internships, apprenticeships and post-high school career pathways.

She and her husband have two grown children who have flown the nest, and two adorable dogs who are often on the couch. They enjoy regular outings all around the valley as part of this beautiful life, from rivers to ski trails to alpine peaks, in all kinds of weather. Common activities include writing poetry, silversmithing, watercolor painting, and preserving food.
