Becoming Fully Human

November 12, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join Nate Bacon for a series of one-day workshops called Becoming Fully Human. These workshops are intended as a multi-layered introduction to support folks as they cultivate the tools necessary to support (in themselves and in others) psychological self-healing, wholeness, and human development with the wild, natural, more-than-human world and the depths of soul as our primary guides.

The workshops are appropriate for educators, parents, psychotherapists, and community organizers, as well as people interested in rites of passage, social justice, humanity’s response to ecological and biological devastation, and the relationship between personal and cultural transformation. Each workshop will be an exploration of our human psyches as unique expressions of the universal forces and patterns of nature. This work supports deep and meaningful personal change in the service of deep and meaningful cultural change.

The first class is Saturday, November 12, from 9am to 4pm and will orient around teaching the Nature-Based Map of the Human Psyche. The map is a tool to assist in the cultivation of the facets of our innate human wholeness, that is, our astonishing resources, untapped potentials, and unfathomable depths that we might not even know exist until we discover how to access them, cultivate them, and, eventually, to integrate them into our lives. It is also a tool to assist in coming into conscious relationship with the fragmented or wounded sub-personalities of our psyches that form during childhood and express themselves in various ways throughout our lives. Coming into conscious relationship with these fragmented parts of ourselves enables us not only to change our relationship with them, but also to begin to uncover their inherent gifts.

For more information on the Nature-Based Map of the Psyche feel free to peruse the following websites: wildmindbook.com and animas.org (with particular attention on this second site to anything you are compelled to read about “Wild Mind”, which is the shorthand we use at Animas Valley Institute for the Nature-Based Map of the Psyche).

The second class is Saturday, January 14, from 9am to 4pm and will orient around teaching the Eco-Soulcentric Developmental Wheel. The ESDW is an eight-stage model of the human lifespan that presents a new eco-depth psychology of human development as it relates to cultural transformation. It is a model of viable human unfolding and articulates, from infancy through elderhood, the primary psychological tasks of each life-stage, illuminating how we are designed to become visionary artisans of cultural (re)generation, that is, true adults and elders. It shows that our culturally induced failure to support viable and natural human development is a primary source of the widespread failures of contemporary western culture while also showing the richness of human unfolding and maturation when nature and soul are embraced as our wisest and most trustworthy guides. We will not only explore the model in depth, but will also touch on its application in the realms of parenting, education, rites of passage, psychotherapy, social and political systems, personal growth, and cultural change.

For more information on the Eco-Soulcentric Developmental Wheel feel free to peruse the following websites: natureandthehumansoul.com and animas.org (with particular attention on this second site to anything you are compelled to read about the Developmental Wheel).

Each workshop is $100 or take both workshops in the series for $180
