Education Spotlight: Independent Learning Center
What they do: Independent Learning Center is a small, innovative high school where students’ interests, passions, and talents drive the learning. Students commit to a personal vision through authentic new learning that empowers them to contribute their knowledge and skills to meaningfully influence the school and make a difference in the world. As a Big Picture School, students develop to live lives of their own design, supported by caring mentors and equitable opportunities to achieve their greatest potential. Students graduate from ILC with the skills, knowledge and qualities necessary to be activists in their world.
Who they serve: We currently serve 38 students.
What’s new: Students at ILC are currently preparing for springtime student-led seminars, where individuals or pairs of students will plan and implement lessons for their peers on a variety of interest based topics.
Why the TwispWorks campus is a great fit: One thing that makes the TW campus a great fit for our organization is the access to diverse opportunities to job shadow and intern right here on campus!
What’s making them smile: One thing that made students & staff at our organization smile this winter was the smell of fresh baked cookies in the Bunkhouse. Thanks to our amazing baker, Marlow, for allowing us to regularly sample their sweet creations!
